Lunghwa’s High-Speed Transmission Talent Cultivation Base Unveiled by Vice President Lai, Aiming to Become Asia’s Leading University for Electronic Practices Skill Development

Nov 16 2023

The Cultivation Base for the Electronic Apparatus Design of High-Speed Transmission Interface and Testing Talents and Technology was inaugurated at Lunghwa University of Science and Technology. On November 16, 2023, Vice President Lai Ching-te, Deputy Minister of Education Liu Meng-chi, legislator Cheng Yun-peng, acting representative of the Thailand Trade and Economic Office Ohm Cusripituck, and Deputy Representative of the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei Bà Ngô Phương Thảo were invited to unveil the site. The university hopes to focus on industry needs through its five existing practical bases and sites and strive to become the best university in Asia to cultivate practical talent in the electronics industry.

The era of 5G has brought about a significant increase in the demand for high-speed computing, driven by the need for high-speed transmission and processing of massive databases. Additionally, the explosive growth of generative AI has played a crucial role in various industries. As a result, multiple types of transmission interface devices have evolved towards higher performance specifications. To meet the talent demand in the domestic high-speed transmission industry chain, the Ministry of Education allocated $3.3 million US Dollars to Lunghwa University of Science and Technology in 2022 to establish a talent cultivation base. After one year of site renovation and equipment expansion, the base was officially unveiled and put into operation. The aim is to assist students in focusing on industry technical skills through practical sites, facilitate their smooth transition into the workplace, and provide on-the-job training for employees in nearby industrial parks to enhance regional industrial technological capabilities.

When invited to give a speech, Vice President Lai first expressed President Tsai’s appreciation to Lunghwa University for cultivating talents for the country. This year, the university has been ranked first among all private universities in the national “2023 Favorite Students of Enterprises” rankings by Global Views Monthly and Cheers magazines. The university has a remarkable track record in education. It is dedicated to forging connections with the industry. It has introduced an employment program customized to companies’ specific needs, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and learn by doing. This approach strengthens the integration of learning and application, leading to success for companies, the university, and the students.

Vice President Lai stated that Taiwan, as a democratic country, is gaining increasing importance in the current geopolitical changes and global industrial realignment. Taiwan’s industries have their ecological chains in different fields and must bear the responsibility for global prosperity. Consequently, the government must expand its investment in technology and support talent cultivation in universities. It is heartening to see that Lunghwa University of Science and Technology has benefited from policy support and has established two industry elite training demonstration bases: the 3D Digital Circuit Board Design and Smart Manufacturing Line Factory and the (5G) Mobile Communication Module Testing and Calibration Industry Environment Factory. The newly inaugurated Cultivation Base for the Electronic Apparatus Design of High-Speed Transmission Interface and Testing Talents and Technology is expected to have a multiplier effect and significantly assist Taiwan’s semiconductor, high-speed transmission, and other industries.

Lunghwa University President Tzu-Hsiang Ko pointed out that in the era of 5G, there is an increasing demand for high-speed computing and explosive growth in generative AI. Various types of transmission interface devices have evolved towards higher performance specifications, leading to a strong need for talent in the related industry. The university not only helps cooperative enterprises gain a competitive advantage in a fiercely competitive market but also confirms the practical planning of the campus through industry-academia collaboration.

President Ko emphasized that Lunghwa University of Science and Technology has actively promoted integrating industry and academia for many years. In addition to having three production line demonstration bases established with over $10 million US Dollars in subsidies from the Ministry of Education, the university has also established a center for semiconductor component processing using its funding. Moreover, with the unique setting of the Cross-Disciplinary Smart IoT Innovation Practical Classroom that connects to the Asian Silicon Valley, the university leverages its existing five demonstration bases and sites to develop practical technologies and research capabilities simultaneously. This aims to cultivate high-quality talents for the industry and provide integrated design and manufacturing services to companies to enhance students’ competitiveness in the job market. The university is committed to becoming the best university in Taiwan and the top choice in Asia for nurturing practical talent in the electronics industry.
