College of Engineering consists of the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering. In order to facilitate the cooperation with the industries, the college has founded Fine Instrument Center and several engineering technology research centers including Plasma Research and Service Center, Micro-Nanotechnology Center, Risk Evaluation and Prevention Research Center and Creation and Precision Instrument Center. The college vigorously promulgates nano technology, nuclear engineering, green energy technology, optoelectronic, and wireless communication programs. Simultaneously, the college has developed various corporations with international institutions around the world such as the exchange of faculties and students abroad in order to enhance their global visions.
Changes in society and technology in the 21st century are overwhelming. The mission of the College is to cultivate students who can participate in the era of rapid changes in pragmatic technology. Therefore, it is necessary for them to have the two abilities of “self-generating knowledge” and “rapid response to external changes”. The starting point is to take the initiative to create a new game, to take into account stability, and to improve efficiency and sustainable operation. The corresponding educational philosophy is to train “pragmatic engineers with care”. The pragmatic engineer is to be able to observe and care about the people, things, life, as well as environment around him, and integrate them into work and technology to improve, assist and enhance. It is based on multiple values and knowledge, so that it can respond to changes in the industry and can cultivate technology talents for constructing new knowledge.
In response to a series of national programs driven by the government such as National Development Program, National Science and Technology Program-Energy, High-Grade Life Program and New Trillion Yuan Industry in order to fulfill the industry demands and to build a green high-tech island, the research development of College of Engineering stresses on two stands: micro/precision technology and green technology. Specifically, four distinguished fields are developed, namely multi-media/network communication, mechatronics and microcomputer applications, micro-precision technology, energy and material engineering technology, for cultivating talents required by the industry of the optoelectronic / nano components design as well as manufacture and that of green energy.
The College has signed a student and academic exchange agreement with such sister schools as Musashi Institute of Technology and Gunma University in Japan. Akita University, Japan has also signed a sister university agreement with the University for exchange and cooperation with each other. Each year, our graduate students have been exchanged to Akita University for studying the master program. The College is also actively expanding exchanges between Canada’s McMaster University and India, Vietnam, and other countries. Furthermore, the College also vigorously gives the promotion of students’ overseas internship and has sent students to some institutions in the USA, such as the Institute for Combustion Science and Environmental Technology (ICSET) in West Kentucky University, CS Bio Co., and Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure Inc. Engineering programs at all the departments of this college have been accredited with international standards.
