India-Taipei Association Collaborates with Lunghwa University to Foster Next Generation of Semiconductor Talent

Mar 23 2023

On May 21st, the Director General of India Taipei Association, Gourangalal Das, and Deputy General Prasant Tripathi visited Lunghwa to gain insight into the current status of technical vocational education in Taiwan. The aim was to observe the practical fields that Lunghwa had established, including the "3D Digital Circuit Board Design & Intelligence Manufacturing Factory, 5G Communication Module Testing and Adjusting Service Training Center, High-Speed Electronic Transmission Interface Packaging Design and Testing Talent Training and Technology Center, and Power Semiconductor Module Packaging and Testing Factory." The officials were interested in collaborating with industry and academia to create new education and talent exchange opportunities between India and Taiwan.

During the visit, the President of Lunghwa, Ko, the Vice President for Administration, Lin, Vice President for Academia, Chen, and colleagues warmly welcomed the delegation from India-Taipei Association. The visitors were provided with a brief presentation on Lunghwa's educational philosophy, emphasizing the importance of industry-academia connection and practical talent cultivation with both professional and humanistic qualities. The focus was on training talents for the semiconductor sector.

President Ko explained that Lunghwa's educational philosophy was based on "Pragmatism, Excellence, and Innovation," which positions the university as an applied industrial university providing innovative technology services. The university insists on "2 Nos, 2 Wants": not pursuing international rankings and cultivating Nobel Prize winners but instead developing high-quality practical talents for enterprises and providing innovative technology services for the industry to help solve problems and renovation.

Lunghwa has been actively involved in industry-academic cooperation and has invested resources in optimizing teaching equipment and campus environment. The university has also actively formed industry-academia alliances with enterprises to establish industrial R&D centers to promote industry upgrading. Lunghwa is actively cultivating process and packaging technology talents in the midstream and downstream of the semiconductor industry since the semiconductor industry has seen a strong surge in demand. The university is the first private university approved by the Ministry of Education to establish the Department of semiconductor engineering and will begin recruiting in September 2023. The university has a complete practical center for semiconductor component production lines that can provide entire courses on process, packaging, and testing to cultivate students to become semiconductor professionals.

Last year, Lunghwa formed a "Semiconductor Industry and Human Resource Development Consortium" with Taiwan's 14 leading semiconductor industries, including Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. and TSMC. This cooperation with enterprises forms a high-quality team and creates more industry-academic linkages. Lunghwa aims to become a well-known university in the field of electronics in Asia by providing integrated design and manufacturing services.

India-Taipei Association Director General Gourangalal Das pointed out that India is the world's second-most populous country with a large market and the best ICT talents. Taiwan dominates the world's chip industry, and its reputation attracts Indian students to study abroad. Currently, there are more than 3000 Indian students in Taiwan, and the officials look forward to having more Indian students studying abroad in Taiwan in the future and promoting and exchanging cooperation in high-tech talent cultivation for Taiwan and India.

Following the presentation, Director General Gourangalal Das and his entourage visited several practical fields, such as the Department of semiconductor engineering, 3D Digital Circuit Board Design & Intelligence Manufacturing Factory, 5G Communication Module Testing and Adjusting Service Training Center, and High-Speed Electronic Transmission Interface Packaging Design and Testing Talent Training and Technology Center. The delegation was highly impressed with the abundant practical energy and achievement of industry-academia cooperation at Lunghwa.
