A few days ago (February 2nd), the Ministry of Education announced that they approved the allowance of a program for promoting teaching excellence universities of science and technology and technical colleges within 2015~2016. Lunghwa University of Science and Technology gained an allowance of 110 million NT dollars successively, which is the first place within private universities of science and technology in the north of Taichung. Lunghwa University has gained rewards from programs for promoting teaching excellence universities for a successive 11 years (2006~2016). The allowance which is the largest amount within northern private universities of science and technology cumulatively amounts to 606.85 million NT dollars, and surpasses many national universities of science and technology. It is second only to National Taipei University of Technology!

The program for promoting teaching excellence universities is set up by the Ministry of Education to improve teaching quality of higher education, increase students’ employability and competitiveness, and encourage universities to develop their features. Each school proposes projects to strive for the reward. A competitive reward system leads each school to improve teaching quality and foster competent and enterprising personnel. The main spirit of the last proposal of Lunghwa University is the educational philosophy of the school “pragmatism, innovation, and excellence”, which is coordinated with the scheme of the “Golden Decade National Vision” and strategy of industrial restructuring optimization. Besides, the proposal aims to link regional indicative/ key industries/ enterprises actively and promote an order-based placement curriculum to integrate students’ learnt skills with industrial requirements seamlessly. Furthermore, the school offers innovation and originality courses broadly to foster students’ ability for innovation, and deepens full career counseling in adaptive specialization. The university’s familiarity with alumni careers allow students the superiority of smart power (hard power and soft power) in employment, and let their students become excellent and practical personnel for key industries in the golden decade.

Dr. Tzu-Hsiang Ko, the president of Lunghwa University of Science and Technology, states that in order to maximize the effect of the program for promoting teaching excellence universities, the school will provide self-financing which is equivalent to 30% of the allowance from the Ministry of Education to construct superior and diverse teaching environments. Meanwhile, the school encourages students to obtain qualifications and assists students in participating in various competitions after school to improve students’ learning effectiveness and increase their employability and competitiveness.
